Need an DSLR... But Which One?

(download)

It's been a while since I bought a digital camera. I used to own an Olympus C-4000 Zoom which worked like a charm until I abused it. It was working on and off for a while but recently I gave up my hope on it and took it apart for personal experimentation. I bought it back it early 2000's which is a loooong time ago.

After a long debate between point-and-shoots or DSLRs, I tentatively decided to go for the DSLR. I have my iPhone and seems like this year they are coming up with a better and greater phone with much better camera on it so that should do the trick. Besides, most of the time I have someone with a mini camera on them whom I can harrass to get the pictures in original quality soon after we hang out. So why fork $200-$400 into that when I can spend that money toward a much more sophisticated machine, I figured.

Now, I am by no means an expert in this which plays a major role in my decision making process. Therefore I don't have the capacity to buy a high-end camera. Same capacity limitation is heavily applied in my financial situation as well. I'd like something good, that I can take another step forward from my Olympus, practical, but yet affordable. It took me almost 6months to a year when I picked my Olympus, so I know finding that right balance takes time for me when I am investing a lot of money. Getting most bang for my buck is always essential!

So, I've been looking for some time now. I wanted to share my finalists... I'm curious to know what you think. Please share...

In order or preferance:

Canon EOS 550D is fantastic -however too pricey which is also why I am not considering Nikon D90

Tier2: Nikon D5000 & Canon EOS 500D

Tier3: Canon EOS 450D & Canon EOS 1000D
